Glamping with Alpacas

 

I really don't have the best track record with camping (even though I've only ever been once). I have stayed in a "luxury" camping pod, that came complete with camp beds and not much else. It really wasn't a pleasant experience and I didn't even last the full duration of four days. 

 Shepherd huts are glamping with a twist and have become increasingly popular. Maybee Glamping  is a cosy shepherds hut big enough for two (and a pooch!) situated overlooking the Wye valley, surrounded by a 6 acre farm. We had the most perfect three days, surrounded by stunning views and a family of lovely animals, some of which had been rescued by owners Sharon and Lee. 

 Upon arrival, we were greeted by wonderful host Sharon and a family of alpacas, Mary the pony and Coco the donkey. Sid the alpaca was particularly fond of the apples we took with us and Mary the donkey had her head in the bag of carrots! It was lovely waking up each morning to be greeted by such a friendly bunch. 

 The hut itself comes equipped with everything you could need. A cosy double bed, a little bathroom complete with a shower, kitchen area and a little log burner fire. The tv was perfectly situated at the end of the bed, and fairy lights added a special little touch. Outside was a bbq and a fire pit which we utilised fully, toasting marshmallows which had been left for us in a little jar in the hut. The outdoor space was a lovely little garden which was fenced off, meaning the dog was able to play outside safely.

  We visited the nearby forest of dean and a wonderful lake we managed to find close by. The views were spectacular and the dog had such fun. When we returned home to the hut, we opened a bottle of wine and dug into our welcome basket which contained chocolate, home made jam and welsh cakes. Our hosts had even provided a great dvd collection so we opted for Bridget Jones' Baby and a cosy night.
